J. Brian Peters is senior managing director of the property management division for Rose Associates, Inc.
Mr. Peters currently oversees property management functions for a portfolio of more than 20,000 Manhattan apartments with an aggregate market value in excess of $10 billion. He supervises a staff that includes six officers of the firm, 30 professional managers and more than 100 administrative and support personnel.
Mr. Peters first joined Rose Associates in 1995. During his tenure he has been instrumental in the expansion of Rose Associates' property management activities and secured relationships with institutional owners, asset managers and developers. Mr. Peters oversaw the growth of Rose-managed residential units from fewer than 8,000 in 1994 to nearly 30,000 in 2007.
In his current position, Mr. Peters manages the development and execution of property business plans, operating and capital budgets, and management and easing programs for the firm's residential clients. He works extensively with property accountants and asset managers to develop comprehensive financial reporting models ensuring their prompt and accurate completion. He also negotiates and executes management and leasing agreements, vendor contracts, leases and financings both for the firm and on behalf of numerous clients.
Prior to joining Rose Associates, Mr. Peters was a group executive and co-director of property management at Douglas Elliman. He began his real estate career in 1985 as an appraiser with Becker, Reuben & Associates, valuing primarily multifamily properties in New York City on behalf of clients such as the Community Preservation Corporation. Mr. Peters was also involved in the successful conversion of several rental properties (most notably London Terrace Towers) to cooperative ownership.
Mr. Peters graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political economy and from Harvard University in 1983 with a Master of Arts degree in theology and ethics. He completed a certificate program in real estate investment analysis at New York University's Real Estate Institute in 1988, winning a Coverdale scholarship for outstanding academic achievement. He is a member of the Real Estate Board of New York and serves on its Residential Management Council.
